First, find your lobster somewhere to live.
OpenClaw is an open-source AI agent. Contabo's installer treats it as a one-click app — which is the entire difference between an afternoon and a weekend. The agent is free; the VPS and your model are not. Both are cheap.
A real always-on address.
A small cloud VPS keeps the agent awake when your laptop is shut, asleep, or at the bottom of a backpack.
The off-switch is yours.
You pick the model, the channels, the permissions. The API keys and the logs live on a box you control.

Pick an OpenClaw-ready Contabo plan.
Use our Contabo link and choose any VPS or VDS plan that supports application installs. Smaller plans are fine to start — you can size up later without losing data.

// INSTALL
Put OpenClaw in the tank.
In the Customer Panel → Servers & Hosting → open your VPS → click Install → switch to Application Installation → select OpenClaw. If the server is already provisioned, the action shows as Reinstall.
Make a private note of the server IP and admin password before clicking install. You will need both in step 03.

SSH in and run onboarding.
Once the install finishes, connect over SSH. Onboarding may start automatically; if it doesn't, run the command and pick QuickStart for the easiest first pass.
Replace YOUR_SERVER_IP below with the IP from step 02 before pressing enter. The placeholder is intentional — pasting it as-is will not connect.

Choose where the lobster listens.
Telegram. WhatsApp. Discord. Slack. Pick the channels you want and let it through. Use the TUI for the first direct check, then send a real message through your chat app.

Contabo's bill is fixed; the model bill is not. Check your provider's dashboard before leaving any long experiments running.
